Week Thirteen

Week thirteen was cold! Isaac spent a lot of time bundled up and continued practicing his smile - although he was not so into the smiles when we took him to the photographer to have his passport photo taken! We ended up camping out there for a full feeding and three rounds of pictures before she could get a shot that was "usable" (meaning his eyes were open, he wasn't crying and Bill wasn't making too big of a shadow as he stood above Isaac making noises and faces)!! We did finally get a good shot though and we are looking forward to using the passport on our upcoming trip to the Caribbean!
We had a fun afternoon babysitting for baby Ian while Liz went back to work for a meeting. We were all prepared with Baby Einstein videos and other props to help me entertain two babies, but Ian didn't wake up the whole time his mommy was gone!! In the meantime Isaac enjoyed his first introduction to the DVDs and was entranced for about 10 minutes sitting in the Boppi and on the couch while Ian and Wilson slept! It was fun to watch.
Isaac had another fun visit with his Grandma and Grandpa over the weekend. We all hung out during th day and then they babysat on Saturday night while Bill and Jamie got to go on a date (so nice!!) to see the newest Bond movie and had lots of fun bonding time.

Overall another fun week for Isaac!!

Isaac smiling

Ignore my annoying noise in the background - anything to make him smile. We're still working on the laugh...

Week Twelve

We can't believe how fast the weeks are flying by and that we are already on Week twelve! We had heard that this would be a turning point, and really do think Isaac is acting less like a newborn and really taking in what's happening around him and spending lots of time awake and alert without crying! He also discovered his hands and spends a lot of time trying to get his entire fist in his mouth -so far no success on that front.
This week Isaac had his first road trip to the big apple! We drove to NYC with Papa Rich and Grandma Sherry, Isaac was great on the drive and slept almost the whole way until we stopped in Delaware to get in a quick visit to see Mom-Mom and Poppy and meet his Aunt Marie and cousins Jake and Seri. We took the opportunity to feed him there and Jake and Seri were VERY surprised at Isaac's ability to spit up at a distance when Papa Rich was burping him and they jumped out of the way just in time!!

In NYC Isaac was at first unimpressed with the sleeping quarters of a pack and play and decided to wake Jamie up every hour on the first night. Threatening to go back to DC, Papa Rich and Grandma Sherry offered to have Isaac sleep in their room in his car seat which made a DRASTIC difference as he slept from 9-4:30 the next two nights! We think they must be very heavy sleepers ;) In NYC, Isaac finally got to meet Kristin who entertained Isaac with renditions of the Eensy Weensy spider and Bringing Home a Baby Bumble Bee - reminding us of how she was such a great babysitter to his mommy and aunts!! Grandma Sherry babysat while Kristin and Jamie got in a fun day at the spa for my birthday-which was so much fun!! Isaac also met our friend Judy and her son Henry who was nothing but smiles and a pro at the NYC streets and subway. We also hung out with Jenn and Max who graciously lent us an activity mat to help entertain Isaac during his visit At the end of the trip, Isaac got to experience his first train ride in style when we took the Acela home to DC - he slept through almost the whole ride, only waking up to eat during the last 30 minutes, much to the chagrin of the men sitting directly across from us!!

Isaac spent lots of time strengthening his leg muscles as Bill kept him in balance, he seems to want to stand up before sitting!! To help in the sitting department, our friends lent us a Bumbo seat. Isaac spent lots of time in there this week which we all loved - him because he got to sit up like a big boy, and us because it was another fun place to put him down to entertain himself!!

Isaac was put to work at Karen and Gabe's house this week, testing out all their baby stuff to make sure it was ready for the arrival of his soon-to-be-best-friend Baby Kruse. For the most part they passed with flying colors - except the bouncy seat, which Isaac fell through (not that he seemed to mind)!!

On Fridays Jamie and Isaac go to a professional mom's workshop, and this week all the mom's got together for a picnic in rock creek park which was a lot of fun.

Over the weekend Isaac had some more quality time with Kristin who came to DC to keep us company while Bill went hunting with some famous DC Chefs for a Washington Post story. Isaac got to come along to the "girls dinner" at La Lomita to enjoy a little sangria with us on Friday and and was so well behaved that he came to Capitol Grill with us on Saturday night too :)

When Bill returned from his big hunting trip, in between cleaning and cooking the Goose they caught on the hunt, he bathed Isaac for the first time (and did a great job) and had lots of fun bouncing around the house with Isaac on his shoulders.
Overall another great week!

Week Eleven

This week was a great week for the country, for Jamie and for Isaac. On Tuesday, it was Jamie's birthday and election day - and we celebrated both! Isaac slept dutifully while we waited on line to vote with our friends Julia and Ashton. It took a little over an hour with the line around the corner and the nice volunteer gave both Isaac and Jamie an "I voted" sticker!

Later that night we had a party to watch the election returns and celebrate Jamie's birthday. It's amazing how much our parties have changed over the past year - there were five babies and three pregnant women! Isaac was sporting his "Tiny Democrat" onesie and our friends Liz and Tim brought baby Ian wearing his "Teeny Republican" onesie - never to early to start debating the issues!!

At the end of the week we really got to celebrate Jamie's birthday. Bill planned an amazing day with a family hike around the arboretum to see the beautiful fall foliage, a spa day with Karen showing up as a surprise, a seven course wine-tasting dinner at Restaurant Eve and a full night's sleep culminating in breakfast in bed at the Ritz. The full night's sleep was particularly appreciated thanks to Papa Rich and Grandma Sherry for babysitting during Isaac's first overnight away from us!! He is reported to have slept for seven hours straight - apparently showing off for his babysitters!!

Week Ten

Week 10 was a lot of fun. I brought Isaac in to meet everyone at my office when I went in to get a flu shot. He slept through the whole thing, even though Jorge tried his best to wake him!

We got a quick visit in with Aunt Alli and Uncle Chad who finished up painting Isaac's room by adding his name to the mural.

Isaac has continued practicing his smiles, and loves wearing his warm and cuddly new winter jacket (though he HATES putting it on)!
We had a lot of fun dressing Isaac up for Halloween, everyone thought Isaac made an adorable superman (especially Jamie & Bill).

We went to a party at the Cuneo's house (Bill's boss) on East Capitol which is like mardi gras for kids on Halloween. They bus in thousands of kids who are all dressed up in adorable costumes and get TONS of candy. We met up with the yoga babies there and had fun catching up and comparing growth and (lack of) sleep schedules for all the boys! Finally, Bill decided to have some fun naked time with Isaac pre-bath. And ended up getting a "bath" of his own!
