The posts seem to be getting fewer and more far between, hopefully Caitlin won't hold it against me when she grows up that there are so many more from Isaac's first year. One reason is that it has been a travel-filled several weeks for the
Andersons, and we were both really busy at work. My travelling resulted in Bill getting some real QT alone with the kids, which he hasn't really had before (and he handled it like a champ). Hopefully the travelling will not continue at the same rate, it's hard on us and the munchkins.
In any event, a lot has happened over the past few weeks, so bear with me as I upload/download a lot in this post (in reverse chronological order, again).
The crazy heat and humidity this past weekend led us to buy and inflate a new swimming pool. Since our experience has taught us that even the pricier ones get
grimey, we opted for the cheap pool assuming we will have to purchase another at some point later in the summer. This one is big enough to fit rafts, and the kids loved splashing around in them. This was Caitlin's first time in a pool and she did great -- we all had a fun family afternoon cooling off! Isaac learned the phrase "
chillin' like a villain", which adds to a catch-phrase repertoire that already includes "I got the skills to pay the bills".
Cesi still brightens our work days with pictures of the kids on their way out to play every morning. Here are some that were particularly cute over the last couple of weeks. The sunglasses series was definitely my favorite, though Caitlin's modeling pose showing off those delicious thighs is a close runner up!
Every Memorial Day, motorcycle enthusiasts and veterans from all over the country make their way to DC for "Rolling Thunder". On Sunday, all 400,000+ motorcycles (not exaggerating) ride from the Pentagon around the National Mall past the Capitol in remembrance of prisoners of war and those missing in action. It is quite a sight, so we rode bikes down to the Capitol with the kids to watch and cheer them on. Isaac was in heaven and tried to count them all, but since his numbers don't go past 14 (he can actually count to 20, but seems to get stuck at 14 and goes back to 11, kind of like a skipping
cd). In any event, it was entertaining to us and those around. Since Bill's bike has Isaac's
Topeak seat installed, the trailer had to be attached to mine. It was fun, but let me tell you, they don't call it Capitol HILL for nothing - riding back up the hill with both kids was a definite workout!!
Isaac and Caitlin have been having lots of fun times hanging with the kids in the neighborhood and going on fun outings with
Cesi. Caitlin is getting so big that she's right in the middle of the big kid mix now, even sitting with them for
storytime at the library and music class. She's eating basically everything now (everything that's not tied down), giving high five's, blowing raspberries as a form of communication, and still on the verge of walking. Also, she can climb the stairs, as she showed me when I turned my back for a minute to find her halfway up!
We celebrated Mother's Day with Grandma Bertie and Grandpa, and had a really nice day including brunch, beautiful flowers and a surprise massage for me! They took Isaac to National Train day at Union Station and had lots of fun touring the trains. Isaac proved to us that he is ready for potty training that day because we unintentionally sent him out with them in underwear and he did great, using the public toilet twice with Grandpa. Now he basically only wears diapers for naps and bedtime and has been essentially accident-free!
Here are some cute pictures from Bill's time alone with the kids while I was in CA and NY - Isaac was a big help getting Caitlin fed and ready for the day. Soon after she proved that she could do it all by herself :) Cesi sent me this cute video to make sure I got my fix of the kiddies and wasn't too homesick, which is Isaac's improvisational take on "You Are My Sunshine". I probably watched it 1o times!
A few weeks back, the "Day Out With Thomas" came to Baltimore and Isaac couldn't have been more excited to meet Sir
Topham Hatt, ride on Thomas and climb on the trains. He was even luckier that Papa Rich met us in Baltimore and allowed Isaac to chow on a
hotdog on his head and then spoiled him rotten in the gift shop before we hit the road. The next morning he bought Isaac his first big boy bike, which he LOVES and is getting really good at riding!
