Weeks 50-51

It's been a fun few weeks for Isaac - play dates and trips to the Building Museum, and touring around the monuments with Rachael and her friends when they were in town.

He also had a really fun play date with Henry who was driving through with my friends Judy and Matt on their way up to New York. Henry who is almost exactly a year older than Isaac was great with Isaac and his toys, and even left his place mat for Isaac (which has been unbelievably useful because it has a little ditch that catches all the food that Isaac drops between the counter and his mouth - poor willy is not loving it though as his food supply has diminished drastically!!)

Isaac and I have been living it up on Mondays -- we went to the zoo last week and this week we went with Rachael to the pool. For the first time, Isaac really seemed to enjoy it (possibly because it was 110 degrees outside and the pool water was warmer than his bath!!) and splashed and had fun walking in the shallow water on the rim of the pool and dancing to the music the dj was playing.

One of Bill's best friends got married in Virginia Beach last weekend so we went down on Friday night and left Isaac with Grandma and Grandpa overnight. They had lots of fun with Isaac before joining us on Saturday (after a hellish drive in beach traffic). Isaac did great with a babysitter he didn't know (much to my relief) while we all went to the wedding and though he didn't sleep much on the drive home, he stayed in relatively good spirits. Overall he got lots of fun bonding time in with Grandma and Grandpa, and wasn't too cranky even though he developed a pretty bad cold and cough.

The cold and cough originated with Rach who was under the weather the beginning of last week. Unfortunately this mysterious illness that has taken over our house interfered with her grand plans for the last few fun Isaac-Rachael days, but they still managed to enjoy themselves around the house. I can't believe the summer went by so quickly - Isaac has been so unbelievably lucky to have Rachael with him this summer (and so have we!) - we will miss her lots!! Isaac will spend next week downstairs in daycare, which will be a bit of an adjustment now that he's used to ruling the roost. There will be lots of kids around because it's the break between camp and school, so he'll definitely be entertained :)

Before Rachael left she trained our new nanny Ceci (short for Cecilia) who did great with Isaac and will be starting officially after we get back from vacation on August 31. They did have a few adventures during the couple days of training, including a power outage, Isaac with a fever, and Wilson getting bitten by another dog during a walk. Thankfully, Ceci seems tough and said she looks forward to coming back!!

Finally, Aunt Alli should be proud to see that we're trying hard to get Isaac used to drinking out of a cup. He gets a little overexcited though, and sometimes takes just a little too much at the end...
