Milestones

This past few weeks we hit some big milestones:

Isaac began sleeping unswaddled (in reality he had been sleeping unswaddled for a little while - we put him to bed swaddled and through some crazy Houdini moves he consistently escaped, so we decided to forgo the exercise). It was a little harder to get him to settle into sleepy mode at first, but he's now a pro.

Isaac turned over on his own. He did it for the first time on January 1st and has repeated the trick a few times, although not so much for the video camera. This is post turn-over -- he now enjoys tummy time!! The first few nights after he learned this trick were somewhat exhausting for two reasons- one because he kept flipping onto his tummy and getting stuck and two because I would check the monitor and see him on his tummy and get nervous that he was burying his head in the sheets. Needless to say, after a few days we both worked out our issues and Isaac is now a comfortable tummy sleeper.

Isaac began eating rice cereal this week. Given his sleeping habits (probably more accurate to term his three hour stints as naps), we decided to put something more substantial in his belly to see if it would hold him over a little longer. We fed him under the professional observation of Aunt Alli through Skype who told us it was important to let Isaac get messy (we're not sure if that is important for Isaac's development or ours as she knew it made me nuts looking at his messy face!!) He really seems to enjoy the cereal, however the impact on his sleeping has not yet been realized...

Miscellaneous Week 20 stuff:
Isaac broke 13 pounds!! He went back to the doctor for a checkup re his reflux (doing better on Prevacid) and he gained a pound over the last two weeks, weighing in a 13.9! Yay!!

After we returned from the beach, Isaac got in a bonus visit in DC with his Uncle Evan which was fun. Evan is determined to get Isaac to stand on his own, and did get him to come close (with some assistance from a pillow).

Finally, Isaac's new best friend, Colin Kruse, was born on January 4th. We hung out with Karen and Gabe and Karen's parents when Karen was in the initial stages of labor, and had lots of fun texting Gabe and Karen's sister throughout the night getting updates on their progress. After a relatively quick delivery (probably felt less so from their end), they had an 8 lb 9.6 ounce beautiful BLONDE baby boy who (if you can believe it) has MORE hair than Isaac!! We are so excited for the Kruses and can't wait for Isaac and Colin to have playdates!
