On Friday, we had a fun playdate with Taylor and Silas who came over to hang out and try out Isaac's toys (Silas actually liked the bouncy seat!!) Buying into the Wives' Tale that Guinness helps a nursing mother's milk supply, Taylor and I enjoyed a frosty beverage during our playdate (don't worry Matt, she only had one!!). Silas has grown so much that he is almost bigger then Isaac even though he's more than two months younger!! This knowledge inspired me to up his rice cereal meals to twice daily :) We also tried oatmeal and multi-grain cereal, but rice cereal seems to be his favorite. He's still pretty iffy on the solid food- one day I can't get it into his mouth fast enough (and he grabs the spoon to help) and the next he's not so into it...
Bill and I decided that we were going to use the four day weekend to try some "sleep training" with Isaac. As my return to work is imminent, my desire to get more than 3 hours of sleep at a time is getting stronger. On Friday I re-read Healthy Sleep Habits, Happy Child and was prepared to let Isaac cry it out. Easier said then done...my goal was to feed Isaac only once in the middle of the night, so we were attempting to get rid of two feedings. Needless to say it was a rough few nights for all of us, but by Sunday night he was sleeping from about 7-8 until 12-1 and then from that feeding until about 5:15 at which point he gets up, cries for a little while, goes back to sleep several times before we pick him up at 7. Definitely hard to let him cry, but ultimately we are all getting more sleep which we DEFINITELY needed!!
