Week 24/25

The past couple of weeks we have been VERY focused on getting Isaac on a schedule in preparation for me going back to work, and to help Isaac sleep through the night. He gets up around 7 and takes three naps throughout the day and is back in bed by 7. The process is somewhat arduous and keeps us closer to home than I have been used to, but the results have been great- he's a happier baby AND he has slept through the night from 7pm - approximately 7am for the past five nights!! He still wakes up a few times and cries, but he puts himself back to sleep without me having to go in and feed him - AMAZING!!! It also might be helping that we have started giving him more solid food. Isaac loves eating oatmeal now and gets it twice a day. Just the past few days we have also started introducing veggies. Bill and I decided that we will make Isaac's food from scratch, and so I broke out our new Williams Sonoma steamer/pureer and went to work. The first veggie to try was an acorn squash, which did not go over so well (see the video - right after we stopped filming he started gagging and repeated the gag response with every subsequent bite). We tried it a couple more times and while we didn't get as negative of a reaction, he definitely did not appear to like it. Tonight we tried sweet potatoes, and while I wouldn't say it was a hit, he definitely didn't react as negatively. Regardless of what he eats, he is constantly trying to grab the spoon or the bowl, which definitely contributes to the mess and is the reason we now bathe him after he eats!!

Isaac got to meet more of our good friends (and possibly his future wife??) this week in Delaware. While the circumstances of our being in Delaware were unfortunate, it was wonderful to see Jared, Kristen and Gabi.

Isaac and I were equally psyched when Colin Kruse was born because we needed more fun daytime playmates. This past week we spent fun times with Karen and Colin (and Lisa) just hanging out, wandering around Capitol Hill, and attempting to make bread in Virginia. It was going really well until we put the bread aside to rise and realized we forgot to add the yeast! Ultimately it came out tasting good, just a little dense...oh well, the boys still had fun!!

We also had a fun visit with Isaac's grandparents this weekend. They came in on Friday afternoon and got to spend a lot of quality time with Isaac, feeding him, bathing him, and doing lots of playing. They also babysat on Saturday night so we could have a grown-up night out, which was much appreciated!!

Isaac and Wilson are definitely fun to watch these days. Isaac watches Wilson in amazement as he runs by and jumps on and off the couch. Wilson watches Isaac in horror as he reaches out to grab him, jumping out of the way just in time to avoid a pulled tail and ears. Wilson also follows Isaac around hoping to clean up whatever he drops or spits up. All very entertaining to me :)
